The Kerem Tunnel is a great place to ride and hike.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first bike tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles Jerusalem, the capital city.

Elkin stated that, in addition to its rich history and modern amenities, tourism has also been included in the city of Jerusalem. "The inauguration[of] the tunnel project is a different aspect of the growth of Jerusalem as well as its transformation to an attractive tourist destination for everyone across Israel and the world.

Elkin, who heads the project together with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests millions of dollars in the development of Jerusalem's tourism and in the creation innovative activities and ventures that tie the glory historical past of Jerusalem to its future. The project was financed by Elkin's ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

In the late 1990s in the 1990s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to relocate the main sewer line from Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is currently used for infrastructure purposes and also houses the fifth water line that connects to Jerusalem by the Mekorot water company.

Present work includes road construction, installation blowers and sophisticated safety equipment to ensure the tunnel is secure for all to use during the entire year.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites - including the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium as well as the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
